Dear fellow creatives, companies, and potential clients of the world,
As much as I sympathize with all of you when it comes to finding the “best people to work with,” please note by the end of the day, there is no such thing as a perfect worker/employee/partner.
So if it turns out that the person who you are currently working with/plan on working with has a less than perfect record of some sort, please do not turn that person away. Instead, take some time to actually get to know that person beyond what he/she/they put on social media. You never know as to what kind of useful information you may gain out of the conversation.
As a fellow creative and instructor myself, I have to communicate to those whose backgrounds and beliefs may appear unheimlech on the surface, but in truth provide a lot of useful information for someone like me. If I were to shun those people before getting to know them, then I would never take the time to learn native languages or open myself to more job opportunities in addition to writing and computing as was the case between me and a former criminal whose name I will not disclose for privacy’s sake.
As writers Jane Austin and Diane Nguyen once said, “We’re all responsible for our own happiness.” When it comes to the concepts of money and competition, while it’s one thing to blame “the system” as to why certain people should be rewarded while others either be punished and/or receive nothing, it’s another to break “the system” down into individual parts and change it in a way that is appropriate for ourselves and those around us.
As a fellow creative and instructor, it hurts when people judge me based on whom I’m associated with as opposed to whether or not I can get the job done. What makes this experience especially painful is that these people who I associate it, though imperfect in so many ways, have formed me into the beautiful, open-minded individual that so many of you crave in a partner/employee (punks, former criminals, psychotics, and so on).
For instance, one former punk, who gladly took care of me while I was drunk at his farewell party one night, taught me that no matter what happens, we as humans have the power to choose how we want to live our lives. As testament to that, he became a chef at a Japanese restaurant whom a friend of mine once worked with while taking some time to get to know himself better. Had it not been for him, I would never have bothered to call myself an instructor in a world where students often go to school to get jobs as opposed to actually learning more about the subjects of which they are actually interested in and thus serve as a catalyst towards professional careers that most suit their needs and the needs of those around them.
Another example is that a few friends of mine who have been sent to mental institutions without their consent have taught me to stand up and speak out (ideally, in a professional manner) against the things that truly cause harm (ex. verbal abuse). Otherwise, I would not be able to help those who cannot help themselves during their times of need as a professional and as a person.
If my personal survival depends on whether or not a company can tolerate living in a world filled with imperfect beings, then the only thing that I can say right now without starting a war online is that I hope that your personal misery and dissatisfaction in life make you happy and wealthy on so many levels. Otherwise, you cannot say that I did not try to express the truth to all of you online.
So before any of you decide to search for your “perfect partners” once more, let me ask you all this, can any of you think of a single company or person who has made history without creating any controversy?
If so, I would like to see your evidence in the comments down below so I can verify that information for myself. Otherwise, I would be more than happy to have an intelligent, mature conversation with you in regards to this topic in private.
With all of that said, “What stood out to you” as Fiddler would say and why? I would be more than happy to read your thoughts.
“Have a good week” as YouTube healer Teal Swan would say!
Sincerely,
